Goodbye SG-1

Yet another of my favorite shows is ending this season. Last Friday the final episode of Stargate SG-1 aired on the Sci-Fi Channel after a record-setting 10 year run. I'm sad to see it go, no doubt. However, it had a nice, long, successful run, which I'm glad of. Also, there are currently two direct-to-DVD movies in the works to be released next year (and possibly more to come).

The final episode, surprisingly, didn't wrap up the Ori arc that's been going on for the last two seasons. That's being left for the first movie. Its kind of interesting why they did it this way. I believe it was to give the "appearance" that SG-1 isn't really ending, although it will be the end of weekly adventures during the TV season.

It made me sad that Richard Dean Anderson didn't make it into the final episode, but at least he will be joining the cast in one of the two upcoming movies.

To solidify continuity (and possibly revitalize the show a bit), Amanda Tapping's character, Samantha Carter, is going to become a main character next season on SG-1's sister show, Stargate Atlantis. That's some good news for any Stargate fan. So, here's looking forward to next season of Atlantis (I thought the cliffhanger season finale last Friday was pretty darn good) and seeing the SG-1 legacy continue on over there (oh, and hope for more RDA guest appearances!).
