Beginning next week most, if not all, of the shows I'm interested in watching this season will be premiering. Here's a little breakdown of what I'll be watching.
The heavy hitters for me this season are Heroes (premiers Sept. 24 on NBC) and Stargate Atlantis (premieres Sept. 28 on The Sci-Fi Channel). I started watching Heroes after it was a couple months into its run last season. I watched it from the beginning online (thanks NBC for having Heroes episodes viewable on your web site). I thought it came to a rather anti-climactic finale at the end of last season, but that doesn't really diminish how great the show is. This year, I'm sure, it'll be even better. Why is that, you ask? Because Kristen Bell will be on the show! My other favorite show of the last few years, Veronica Mars, was cancelled by The CW (which I'll never forgive them for, btw), so I have to get my Kristen Bell fix somehow. Luckily that's rather easy this season, thanks to Heroes.
Even though I was raised on Star Trek, the two Stargate series have been promoted to my favorite sci-fi shows of all time. Last season marked the end of SG-1's record setting
10th and final season. However, the show's characters and lore continue on in Atlantis, now beginning its fourth season next week. Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter) is moving to Atlantis as a regular cast member, and there's a confirmed guest appearance by Christopher Judge (Teal'c) in two Atlantis episodes this season and rumors that Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) will appear on the show sometime, as well. Unlike past series I've liked a lot (read: Firefly, Veronica Mars), I'm actually not upset at the cancellation of SG-1, although I'll miss it a lot. The show ran its course - a whopping 10 full seasons. While I would have liked more TV seasons, 10 years was enough to flesh out the characters and work through two major story lines in full (the go'auld and the ori). Let's hope Atlantis has as much success.
Besides those two, I'll also be watching Smallville (yes, I know, its on the evil CW, but what can I do, I like the show), Bones (we still need to watch the 2nd season on DVD, but its coming in the mail soon, so we should be caught up before long) and House, all premiering next week.
