Battle of the SRPGs

Strategy RPGs aren't exactly what you would call my cup of tea. I prefer the more traditional turn-based (or, perhaps, Japanese style) RPG. However, I did buy Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions when it was released on the PSP last year. I have played it for a good chunk of time, but I'm only roughly half way through the game. I have a problem with that game though - its outdated and, in many cases, boring. Yes, I said it, I know its blasphemy, but its my opinion. The story is good, and usually that's what drives me to play games...but the story has to mesh with the rest of the gameplay, because if the gameplay is horrible (not saying Tactics is) then the game won't hold my attention long, even with the best story.

So, the other day I found Jeanne d'Arc for a very cheap price and picked it up. Just about every review I read about this game was singing its praises. I haven't quite played as much of it as I have of Tactics, but I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this game a lot more. The battles are fun, even the early ones. They're no where near as long or complicated, yet the challenge of battling in a strategy RPG is still there. Plus, the cut scenes are very well done and the voice acting is superb. I'll have more to say once I get into it farther, but it may take me a bit. I have two games on the way in from GameFly, and one just happens to be yet another SRPG - Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. We'll see how that one goes.
