It appears that the high-definition video format war is officially over. During the last several months, we've seen motion picture studios, distributors and retailers alike choose to support Blue-Ray over HD-DVD. The final blow came in the last couple days when Toshiba finally announced that it was ceasing production on HD-DVD players and recorders.
This is a huge win for Sony, as they had the forsight to integrate a Blue-Ray player into their PS3 (unlike Microsoft on the HD-DVD side, you had to buy a periferal to play those discs with your 360). I remember analysts and consumers alike balking at Sony way back when for including Blue-Ray functionality in their PS3, because that is what gave the system an initially high price point.
It appears those people were wrong, as Sony is probably throwing a huge party about right now.
