Is 40GB Enough?

Not that I plan to replace my 40GB PS3 with an 80GB anytime soon, but a few recent occurrences have me a bit...concerned. Its been in the news recently that the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4 has a ~20 minute install time upon inserting the disc. That install loads 5GB of data onto your PS3's hard drive. Granted, this apparently speeds up loading times by quite a bit, but...why? The XBox 360 version of the game has no hard drive install and reasonable load times.

So, its just one game right? I mean, other games have put a little bit of data on the hard drive, why is this any different? Well, its no longer just one game. I found out today that Hot Shots Golf 5 requires a 5GB installation, as well.

For those of us (which number quite a few, I'd imagine) who have a 40GB PS3, having multiple games take up ~5GB each on top of the downloadable content - demos, PS1 games, etc. - and any number other other things we might put on our game system, is going to start to hurt.

I can see it now...

"Hey guys, I ran out of room on my PS3, let's just delete the DMC4 stuff."

One week later...

"Awww, man! I wanna play DMC4 and I have to wait through another 20 minute install!!!"

Let's hope this trend doesn't continue.
