I read the World of Warcraft forums quite a bit, sometimes more than others though. Sometimes you find interesting and/or humorous posts in among the drivel that usually resides there. Today I found this interesting thread by a poster named Loadsofire (*snicker*) discussing his feelings on people telling him that he plays WoW way too much.
His major issue with the thought of playing something (or, really, doing anything too much) was that it all basically falls under the same category, yet because he plays an online computer game, he's accused of being a "geek", "nerd" or being of the typical "30-year-old living in his parent's basement" stereotype. Says his post: "How is sitting on my computer for 8 hours straight worse than watching TV for 8 hours straight? Over half of Americas population does the same thing as me, but instead of playing WoW, they watch TV."
He does make an interesting point. While not valid in all circumstances, it is a good point. He goes on to say: "'But why do you have to spend THAT much time playing?'" What else am I going to do? Watch TV, read a book, play Xbox? As I said above, many people spend hours on end doing other things, like TV, xbox, ps3, Wii, yet, playing an online games for hours makes you 'weird'."
I thought it was a rather interesting post that surprisingly showed up on the WoW General Discussion boards. ;)
