Old, Dirty Laundry

Its going on three years now that I've been thoroughly engrossed in World of Warcraft. The entire time has been fun - from my "hardcore" raiding in the year before the first expansion, to my solo progression this year. I've really enjoyed leveling up my mage, my warrior and my shaman this year, once I retired my hunter.

What's the problem, you ask? The problem is that, regardless of how many times they patch the game to add new content, its still the same...old...thing. I still have fun, or I wouldn't be playing, that's not really the issue. I just need something new and interesting to do, thus my fascination with alts. But, that will only carry you so far when the base game play is so stagnant.

I tried other games like EVE Online, Lord of the Rings Online and a smattering of free-to-play titles I could download. The closest I've come to liking another MMO were those two mentioned above. But, there are huge, glaring things I don't like about them that hold me back from making the push and focusing on one of those as my "main" MMO. As much as WoW is a bit like old, dirty laundry at the moment, it does appeal to the masses for specific reasons, which, ironically enough, are the reasons that keep me playing - soloability and ease of play.

If I ever go on another break from WoW, I'm interested in trying out Tabula Rasa and possibly Pirates of the Burning Sea (although I hear that's primarily a PVP game, and I'm not much into that).

I wouldn't mind sticking with WoW, but major improvements in certain areas must be made to keep the game fresh and new. Adding new content itself with expansions and patches doesn't always do it for people, including myself.

or you could be growing up and/or out of RPGs and MMOs.

Just a thought.
