I just got a notification in my inbox today that I had reached the six month mark on my GameFly subscription (which comes with another $5 coupon and 10% off used games). It doesn't really seem like its been six months already, but I'll take the bonuses that come with reaching that milestone. ;)
I admit, looking back at my blog posts about the service right after I started, things didn't look promising. At the time, they only had two distribution centers, and I was just about smack dab in the middle of both of them, so there was a pretty large turn-around time for games. I was also very used to the two-day turn-around time of my Netflix movies and compared GameFly to that excellent service.
However, now I'm receiving games about three to four days after I return a game and it only takes a day or two for my mailed games to arrive back at one of their distribution centers (there are two more of those now than when I started six months ago).
The service has definitely allowed me to play some games that I wouldn't have otherwise played, which is good. Its allowed me to reach one of my "gaming goals" for 2008, which is to broaden out and try new things. I also was surprised to see a PS3 copy of Assassin's Creed sold to me for right around $15 after my previous $5 coupon was used, which I couldn't pass up.
All in all, after six months, I'm definitely glad I stuck with it and allowed them to flesh the service out a bit more. Although...I'm now kind of skeptical about their game trade-in service...I think I'll stick with my local GameStop for that one.
